Fast Company award is a first for an AGCO brand, as PTx Trimble releases retrofit platform that will eventually provide autonomous capabilities across farming operations.
AGCO's PTx Trimble™ Wins Fast Company's World Changing Ideas Award for OutRun™ Autonomous Grain Cart Solution
In 2025, AGCO's PTx Trimble™ brand received Fast Company's World Changing Ideas Award for its innovative OutRun™ autonomous grain cart solution. The award honors products, concepts, companies and policies that are designed to make the world safer, cleaner and more sustainable. OutRun’s retrofit autonomous capability offers farmers an effective solution to labor shortages and rising costs, ultimately contributing to increased farm profitability and enhanced sustainability.
OutRun, which also won the prestigious Davidson Prize from ASABE earlier in the year, is a retrofit kit that transforms existing row crop tractors into autonomous machines currently targeting grain cart operation during harvest. This unique approach allows for continuous harvesting even during periods of labor scarcity while providing more flexibility in deploying labor.
"Our vision is to be the trusted partner to farmers for industry-leading, smart farming solutions, and this award is just one proof point our talented team of innovators is delivering on that promise," said Eric Hansotia, Chairman, President and CEO. "OutRun is one of the many Precision Ag solutions we offer farmers to improve farm operations, profitability and efficiency. We are proud of how it might change farmers’ worlds as they work tirelessly to help feed it."
PTx Trimble plans to expand OutRun's capabilities beyond harvesting. Future applications will encompass other essential farming tasks, such as tillage, leveraging the same autonomous platform for spring and fall land preparation. This expansion will further enhance the system's value and solidify PTx’s position as an innovative solutions provider in precision agriculture.
Leading global manufacturer of engines for agricultural and other machinery advancing innovations to achieve low- and zero-carbon solutions for farming.
AGCO Power Opens Clean Energy Laboratory in Finland.
AGCO and AGCO Power opened the company’s first clean energy laboratory in 2024. The lab is part of a 70-million-euro investment (approximately $77 million) in the Linnavuori plant in Nokia and will support development and testing of innovative, sustainable battery and powertrain solutions for farm machinery.
The Linnavuori team of scientists and engineers are developing next-generation engines powered by low- or zero-carbon electricity and alternative fuels, such as hydrogen and methanol, that will help minimize global agricultural emissions.
While the number of hybrid and electric vehicles on world roadways has grown exponentially in the 21st century, adoption of alternative power for off-road/farm machinery has lagged. The capacity of existing battery technologies restricts the size of fully electric farm machinery, but the AGCO Power lab is working to change that paradigm.
“We are investing heavily in the research and development of multiple lower carbon technologies, such as the electrification of off-road machines and hybrids,” said Kelvin Bennett, AGCO’s senior vice president of engineering. “It is exciting to know those investments will start showing tangible results this summer when the first fully electric tractor, the Fendt e100 V Vario, enters production in 2024.”
In addition to the off-road machine emissions, AGCO is aggressively pursuing reductions in emissions in our own operations. Specifically, we have set objectives to reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 55% by 2033 and 90% by 2050.
Development of next-generation zero- and low-emission machines is a focus of our sustainability ambition as we seek to reduce our Scope 3 emissions. Key initiatives include decarbonizing its product portfolio, engaging suppliers to decrease our emissions, supporting farmers’ transition to sustainable solutions, and working with industry associations on renewable and low-carbon fuels in agricultural machinery.
In addition to the clean energy laboratory, the Linnavuori plant features new production facilities for both cylinder heads and continuously variable transmission components, expansions to the paint shop and testing facilities for remanufactured engines, and a training and visitor center. In total, the new buildings cover an expanse of 11,000 square meters (approximately 118,400 square feet), with some phases of the project already open and others set to be operational this year.
AGCO Reman: Laying Foundations for Growth.
Investment in AGCO Reman facilities across the globe affirms AGCO’s commitment to innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for farmers. Our remanufacturing portfolio continues to expand as we build on decades of reman expertise.
AGCO Reman is not simply a repair, it’s a process requiring specialist facilities, that brings used parts back to original manufacturing standards and it now extends across thousands of parts and assemblies.
New AGCO Reman facilities in Brazil
AGCO’s recently opened Reman Transmission Center of Excellence in Jundiai will have the initial capacity to manufacture 100 transmissions in the first 12 months of operation, with the potential to expand to meet growing demand in Brazil.
"The remanufacturing of mechanical transmissions at this new facility in Jundiai will allow for greater agility in the delivery of strategic reman components across South America” explains Robert Stevenson, AGCO Global Reman and Parts Sr. Manager. "Whilst prioritizing quality, efficiency and sustainability, with costs up to 30% lower, our reman solutions support the total cost of ownership for AGCO machinery owners across this region”.
AGCO Power: Advancing reman testing
AGCO has also leveraged a significant investment in our AGCO Power facility, in Finland, to improve our remanufacturing testing capabilities. It is part of a larger EUR 70 million project at the plant in Linnavuori to accelerate clean energy innovations and continue the move towards a circular economy.
AGCO exceeds 2024 safety targets, leading to our safest year ever.
2024: The Safest Year in AGCO’s History.
While AGCO is best known for its innovations in agriculture solutions, in 2024 we also made huge progress in its health, safety and wellbeing targets.
The AGSAFE strategy was launched, taking a three-pronged approach to embedding safety into all aspects of our business by:
- Driving improvement through behavior and culture
- Reducing high-frequency injuries
- Reducing high-severity risks
These initiatives ranged from embedding behavioral and cultural experts at top injury-contributing sites, to launching a slips, trips and falls and winter weather preparedness toolkit – and so much more.
As a result of our intentional, organization-wide approach to health, safety and wellbeing, we were thrilled to achieve a Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR) of 0.89, exceeding our initial 2025 goal of achieving a TCIR of less than 1.5.
But we are not finished yet. To further raise the bar, we have set a new goal to achieve a TCIR of 1.0 or lower by 2025… and we are excited to let you know how it goes.
