Welcome to 2014
EPA/EU Requirements and You
Government regulation of engine emissions continues to get tougher. Like cars and trucks, agricultural equipment must also meet stringent standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and by the European Union (EU). These standards have been phased in stages by the EPA and the EU:
EPA Standards: The chart below shows how progressively stringent EPA standards have grown since the early days of emissions regulation until Tier IV Interim requirements go into effect in 2011 and Tier IV Final take effect in 2014. At each step, reduced NOx and PM emissions are represented by a smaller rectangle:
EU Emission Standards: The European Union has also mandated a staged reduction of allowable emissions culminating with Stage 4 in 2014.

EU Emission Standards: The European Union has also mandated a staged reduction of allowable emissions culminating with Euro 6 in 2014.

Bottom line: Farmers must look for an emissions technology that delivers a long term solution, all the way to 2014 and not just a short term fix.
